Growing up, all of my first cars were in the $100–$200 range—far from new and often in need of serious work. Because of that, I had to learn quickly how to diagnose problems, make repairs, and keep them running with limited resources. It was a crash course in mechanical problem-solving, and over time, I developed a deep understanding of how vehicles work, along with the skills and confidence to tackle just about anything under the hood.
